Persian cats are stunning in appearance - long and furry hair, baby face, and shining diamond-like eyes. As exceptional creatures, Persians require special care, too.

In order to keep your cat healthy, you need some basic information relating to Persian cat care. Persians have some attributes that require extra attention from their owners. Here are some basic tips for all Persian cats’ lovers.

Persian Cat Care – Fur

A Persian cat’s fur needs to be brushed daily with the help of a metallic brush. The brushing movements need to be repetitive and accurate but, at the same time, very delicate as Persian cat’s skin is highly irritable. To get rid of tight knots in your cat’s fur, you may want to use a brush with wide-teeth first and dissolve them gradually. Brushing is compulsory. If you neglect it, be ready to gather piles of cat hair all over your house. Other than that, your cat can develop tightly knotted hairballs and become uneasy, aggressive, or withdrawn as a result.

Moreover, Persians should be bathed several times a year. You should start bathing your cat when he’s still a kitten, so he can get used to it. Too long breaks are not recommended for two reasons. First, your cat’s fur will be deteriorating and you won’t be able to restore it later. And second, bathing, as something barely remembered, will be very stressful for your cat.

Persian Cat Care – Ears

A Persian cat’s ears require a great deal of hygiene as they are prone to serious infections. You should consult your vet about choosing proper cat wipes and use them to remove the excess of wax in your cat’s ears. This area of a Persian cat’s body is very sensitive, so you should be very delicate and careful.

Persian Cat Care – Eyes

Again, you may consult your vet about a proper cat wipe. You will want to prevent the occurrence of stains in your cat’s eyes. You also must pay extra attention to your cat’s eyes - if they are of light color. Be careful not to hurt the eye area while brushing or bathing your cat – cat’s eye infections develop easily and are difficult to treat. Consult a vet immediately, if you notice excessive watering of the eyes.

Persian Cat Care – Teeth

Persian cat care includes caring for your cat’s teeth. You will have to check them periodically, and brush with a special wipe to prevent teeth and gum diseases. You should provide your cat with many different cat’s toys that will help him get rid of irritation, or food wastes.

Benefits of proper cat care are countless. If you groom your cat regularly, he will be able to avoid many unpleasant and long-lasting infections and allergies. It will also improve his blood circulation and appearance. Prevention is always better than treatment.
