Recognizing and Avoiding Serious Conditions in Cats

Mar 28, 2009 Daria Przybyla

Persian cats are known for being extra-sensitive to bacterial infections and coat conditions. Learn how to recognize symptoms of serious illnesses fairly quickly.

A Persian cat’s health is very fragile. Even if you take the best possible care of your beloved pet, he or she is very likely to suffer from different health issues. Apart from proper nutrition and daily care of Persian cats, you should be aware of the symptoms of some frequent diseases and seek veterinarian assistance as early as possible.

Cat Diarrhea

It occurs for a number of reasons – from stress and sensation of loneliness, to bacterial infections and cancerous conditions. Diarrhea, if untreated for a long time, causes considerable dehydration and many other complications including permanent damage to cat’s stomach.

Cats Vomiting - Inflammatory Bowel Disease

A disease that causes chronic gastrological disorders, IBD, is envisioned in a spectrum of severities. Cats can vomit heavily, and suffer from continuous diarrhea. Reasons for the disease are yet unknown. Bacterial infections, gastrological irritation, lack of vitamins are often quoted as factors contributing to the development of the disease. Veterinarians, treating IBD in cats, usually prescribe medicine and advice on the dietary management as well as make surgical choices.

If untreated, IBD, can be fatal for cats. Research - conducted mostly by pet owners - shows that a cat’s diet can be critical. Further research will include inspection of several vaccines. So far, grain-free, raw meat diet has already proved to be largely beneficial.

Why Cats Bite Their Tails? – Feline Ear Mite Invasion

Other than for fun, if you notice that your cat starts chasing and trying to bite his tail with extreme irritation, he may have Feline Ear Mite Invasion. You can check it yourself: when you clean his ears: pay attention to the wastes left on your wipe. It’s possible that it will show somewhat dark, blackened cruds reminding you of coffee wastes. In order to remove the ailment, clean your cat's ears delicately with clean and soft cotton balls, and consult a vet about applying proper medicine. Ear Mite Infection is treated with injections and pills.

Cats Avoiding Litter Boxes - Urinary Tract Infection

If your cat suddenly stops using his litter box and his urine smell becomes very strong, he may have urinary tract infection. It’s very common with male cats who haven’t been neutered.

Cats often have mood swings and, unfortunately, they are often related to health issues. Cat’s depression occurs frequently in cats neglected emotionally and otherwise – and has tendencies to develop into more complex conditions. Learn more about cat care from Persian Cat’s Health and Nutrition.

IBD is sometimes diagnosed when it is simply a matter of just brushing the cat daily AND changing its kibble. (Weekly Petromalt doesn't hurt either!) My Persian threw up all the time on Purina Cat Chow and when I gave him Purina Cat Chow Indoor Cat he never threw up again...It was a clear difference.
